My dear Sri Bhuvan Mohan Prabhu, Sri Rukmini Pati Prabhu, Sri Vyasa Prabhu, and Sri Palak Krishna Prabhu,

Please accept my humble dandavat pranams in remembrance of my Divine Masters Srila Guru Maharaja and Srila Swami Maharaja. I received your phone call and faxes on 5th December.

Fortunately I have got the opportunity with my friends like Sripad Sagar Maharaja to preach Krishna consciousness in Brazil, by the grace of the devotees there, especially your graces. I think you Read More...

Srila BS Govinda Maharaja “Living Life”

SGM_SSM6

Srila Sridhar Maharaja and Srila Govinda Maharaja in Nabadwip India 1985

Without servitors, associates and paraphernalia, the Lord’s position is Brahma where there is no action. There is no feeling, willing, action, or thinking. That is the plane of nirakar nirvvisesha , non-differentiation. The activity of the transcendental world is positive, whereas, the activity of this mundane world where we are living is negative. We need to leave this mundane world with the help of the positive current, and that help comes to us in the form of our Guru-parampara. A light bulb requires both negative and positive electricity to light up. When there is darkness, we can think what light is, and in this way our program for being rescued from the mundane world is going on.Narada Goswami gave a Read More...

Note: an audio version of this discussion is available HERE

Honorable Vaishnavas, devotees, gentlemen and ladies, in your presence I feel very fortunate to be here.  Sripad Bhakti Kanan Giri Maharaja and Sripad Bhakti Ananda Sagar Maharaja have previously asked me to tell you all about my relationship with Srila Prabhupada.  Therefore, in order to serve Srila Guru Maharaja (Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Dev Goswami Maharaja), I will try to do this for their satisfaction.  We are conditioned souls with very tiny capacities and Gurudeva and the Vaishnavas want something of us.  In this way we receive their well-wishing and the transcendental wave will enter us.  That is my strength.  Srila Guru Maharaja, Srila Read More...

Srila Govinda Maharaja “Lecture at Kirtinananda Swami’s Temple”

sgm_soquel

Srila Govinda Maharaja in Soquel, California 2007.

This lecture was delivered in New York City during the 1994 World Tour.

All glories to the devotees of the Western world especially here in New York.I am very happy to be here now, as I was last year when I came for the first time. Actually, I am also happy that Sripad Kirtanananda Swami is here, it has been so long since I’ve had his darshan. What is my duty? Why am I here? These things I am trying to remember at every moment. I joined the Mission in 1947 at the lotus feet of Srila Sridhar Maharaja. After joining I stayed at the Calcutta math studying Sanskrit under Srila Sridhar Maharaja’s direction. Sometimes Srila Sridhar Maharaja would have to leave Calcutta and on those occasions he ordered that I learn Srimad Bhagavat Read More...

Srila Govinda Maharaja “Sweet Service”

sgm040323_sgovm_nbdwp4

Srila Govinda Maharaja circa 2004.

Devotee: I notice that Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur and Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada were engaged in defeating the brahmanas by showing that Vaishnavas are above brahmanas. In the meetings the stalwart brahmanas accepted defeat, but afterwards they all forgot. Is this because it is a hidden treasure and can only be received from the self-realized soul? If it is not the case then after being defeated they would surely remember that Vaishnavas are above mere ‘brahmanism’ and they would follow that.

Srila Govinda Maharaja: Yes. Also it is true that so many saw the Visvarupa of Krsna. Karna, Duryodhana, Dusana, they all saw the Visvarupa of Krsna and they were stunned. They Read More...

Srila Govinda Maharaja “Divine Instruction”

SSM_SGM4

Srila Govinda Maharaja and Srila Sridhar Maharaja, Nabadwip 1987.

Srila Govinda Maharaja: Everything depends on the mood of the devotee. Someone may go for collection, someone else may cook, another may clean, but everything depends on the individual’s mood whether it will be karma or bhakti. If someone will follow his Guru’s instructions in a surrendered mood, it will be bhakti, otherwise it will be pious karma. If anyone will follow the instructions of the Scriptures and Guru he will always receive a good result, but that is not necessarily bhakti. It is a big difficulty for everyone if they are not conscious of their purpose. Srila Guru Maharaja always emphasized the word ‘consciousness’-everything is living within consciousness. The result depends on Read More...

Srila Govinda Maharaja “Emotion Or Devotion?”

SGM_SSM3

Srila Sridhar Maharaja and Srila Govinda Maharaja in Nabadwip 1985.

From an informal talk at the London Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math — 26 October 1993

Devotee:  I want to know if it is okay to read the higher books by the Goswamis, describing the intimate pastimes of Radha and Krsna? Srila Govinda Maharaja:  We are not doing that.  In my forty two years with Srila Guru Maharaja (Srila Sridhar Maharaja) I never once heard him give permission for that to us.  I know many of the books you are speaking of, very well; that is my position was somewhat different.  Srila Guru Maharaja is a Paramahamsa Vaisnava and I was his personal servant up until about 1983, when I engaged some others for his personal service.  At that time my seva responsibility increased in such Read More...

Srila Govinda Maharaja “Golden Reflections”

Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Nabadwip Dham, India.

Question: Now is the Golden Jubilee, the 50th anniversary of the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Nabadwip. Please explain something of the early days here at the Math and in particular, why Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math is considered to be such a special place.

Srila Govinda Maharaja: After the disappearance of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada, the mission begun by him Gaudiya Math started to go in an unexpected way, therefore many of the prominent personalities left. When Srila Guru Maharaja came out from the Gaudiya Math then about fifty percent of the senior devotees also left. Everyone in the Mission had much respect for Srila Guru Maharaja, therefore when he left they also left. Some of the devotees who withdrew from Read More...

Srila Govinda Mahraja, Gaura Purnima 2006

Delivered in Berlin August 1994

This time in Venezuela the devotees arranged many nice programs for preaching, in Caracas they organized a TV interview for me as well as a newspaper article. The television program was very nice and was broadcast live to the whole country on a breakfast time channel for one and a half hours. The translating and interpreting was done in a very quick way and it was a question and answer format and that is very good for me because I cannot speak Spanish , or English perfectly.I also do not speak German, but you can ask some questions if you like and I shall try to give a sufficient answer. Actually the questions are never short and the answer can also be very long. We are giving short answers in a few minutes but Read More...
