IAB Censures its own “Head”, Sripada Acharya Maharaja.

by Bhu-bhara Haraya das

In an apparent effort to cut off its head to spite its face, the International Acharya Board announced today it was censuring one of its four acharyas who they had previously selected as its public face, the “Head” of the Board, Sripada Acharya Maharaja.

In its customary fashion, the IAB took this decision due to the urging of its only non-acharya member, Sripada Bhakti Sudhira Goswami Maharaja, who appears to now be doing “officially” what he previously did by less obvious means, directing all the activities of the IAB.

In July Sripada Avadhuta Maharaja issued a proclamation declaring Goswami Maharaja to be the Supreme Preceptor Cum Acharya (SPCA) of all devotees of Sri Chaitanya Saraswata Math.

“I invoke all devotees, irrespective of their position, to follow his [BSG’s] spiritual leadership. I declare that I consider Srila Gosvami Maharaj as the preceptor of all members of our Mission…” — Published July 21, “The initiations.” by Srila Maharaja Avadhuta.

According to trusted sources, this unusual move, to censure one of their own, was taken as a result of closed door meetings at a new facility arranged by Avadhuta Maharaja and dubbed “Saffron Square” due to the saffron color of the building. (T-shirts, hooded sweat-shirts, Teddy Bears and other memorabilia with the SPCA logo may be purchased at the gift shop).

At the meeting, BSG demanded that he, as the SPCA, should be followed in the spirit of ahaituki and apratihata, causelessly and irresistibly.

All the IAB members being present. they agreed unanimously with BSG’s siddhanta regarding his position of superiority over all, including themselves, in a fashion eerily reminiscent of their decision to give “full blessings” to themselves to begin giving initiations.

“The Acharya Board [IAB] gives full blessings to those indicated as acharyas in the Will of Srila Gurudev to begin initiating disciples of their own…” — IAB Letter of Sept. 17, 2010

Their only condition for submission to the SPCA was that he supply the pen for signing whatever he placed before them.

In a spirit of mutual cooperation BSG gave them each a souvenir pen marked “Property of SPCA” and, with his customary efficiency, a website where they could download an iPhone App that would automatically provide their digital signature on any agreement he may choose to send them in the future.

It was then that BSG declared Srila Acharya Maharaja unfit as an acharya and recommended his name be added to the Censure List (which he assured this reporter was completely different from an Enemies List).

The reason given for this move was that BSG had suddenly received inspiration from the upper world that Acharya Maharaja’s misbehavior with a young woman, which he characterized as more in line with the life of an artiest than an acharya, was siddhantically worse than the actions of a previous Gaudiya Math acharya that caused Srila Sridhara Maharaja to lead a revolt against him.

SPCA, as he now refers to himself, said he was as surprised as anyone by the realization that descended suddenly upon him although he had known of the defective character of the acharya since March, some seven months ago.

While unable to offer a specific reason for his most recent epiphany, when asked, he couldn’t deny that it may have had something to do with his reading this note on Sripada Giri Maharaja’s Facebook Wall, a site he admits to frequenting:

BSG, always quick to react to any situation, asked me to remind the readers of my column that the men and money previously directed to Sripada Acharya Maharaja, should now be directed to him. And, due to the rapidly changing nature of these situations, his iPhone App for automated donations is still in development with a yet to be determined release date.

The date for public issuance of the Censure is also uncertain as Sripada Goswami Maharaja wanted to coordinate it with the release of the iPhone Auto Donate (IAD) App.

Truth – Stranger than Fiction

The truth is that up to today the IAB has issued no censure of Sripada Acharya Maharaja and continues to support and promote him knowing him to be unsuitable for the position of acharya.

Sripada Acharya Maharaja, also following the advice of Sripada Goswami Maharaja, and with the blessings of the IAB, continued giving initiations, even sannyasa, making a mockery of the position of acharya given him by Srila Govinda Maharaja for the purpose of relieving troubled hearts.

His callous actions have caused more suffering than relief.

While Srila Sridhara Maharaja admits to being unable to tolerate such a person, many continue to support and promote him, collecting men and money for one of highly “suspicious character.”

“A man is known by his ideal.” What is the ideal that impels such support?

Whatever that ideal may be, it does not, in this journalist’s opinion, follow the ideal held by the founder of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Srila Sridhara Maharaja.

The fiction?

I assume my readers are not foolish, they will detect the difference between truth and fiction.

Ed. note:

For those who confuse the acronym SPCA with “Sudhira for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals”, he assured this correspondent that he has no interest in such an organization, and prefers everyone regard him as Supreme Preceptor Cum Acharya.

  1. I am seeing, my friend, that you are trying to be sarcastic and humorous… (a kind of black humour, of course…)… I have got an impression, that you are balancing on the verge of Vaisnava-aparadha… be cautious… it is not a “childish play”, as one Vaisnava used to say…

  2. “Das”,

This is also “not a ‘childish play'”,

“That the acharya will have such a black spot. We are taking money and men, money and specially men to one who will have such suspicious character, black spot. We could not tolerate that.”

These are the words of Srila Sridhara Maharaj. Are you warning your other friends about “taking money and men, money and specially men to one who will have such suspicious character, black spot.” as you are warning me about being on “the verge of Vaisnava-aparadha”?

And from Srila Govinda Maharaj speaking to the same subject,

[he should] “leave his Acharya post. He is vaishnava, no doubt. And it is not fault, so much fault. But this is fault for one Acharya. This is point. Then he leave Acharya post. And, shall give nourishment to him. And he may come perfect way. Again he will come perfect.” That was Guru Maharaja’s proposal.

Has Sripad Acharya Maharaj left his post as advised above? No.

Has he even halted initiations? No.

What has the International Acharya Board done about these things?

While issuing a censure against Sripad Giri Maharaj whose apparent fault is that he took much time to explain the directions given by Srila Gurudev in his Will and urge the acharyas of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math to follow the Will, nothing has even been said about the misbehavior of Sripad Acharya Maharaj with a young woman.

Did the IAB investigate the allegations against him?

Did they talk to the devotees Mahananda Prabhu spoke with, both ladies and gents, who all corroborate the woman’s story as being consistent and in line with times she would have been alone with Sripad Acharya Maharaj?

Did you read the emails between Mahananda Prabhu and Sripad Giri Maharaj? I read them. They do not look like the sort of emails Mahananda Prabhu would be sending if he thought there was nothing to the allegations.

What do you have to say about those emails? Mahananda Prabhu is only spreading gossip?

Sripad Trivikram Maharaj told Sripad Giri Maharaj he did not believe Sripad Acharya Maharaj’s denials about the incidents.

Have you warned Sripad Trivikram Maharaj that to believe Sripad Acharya Maharaj is lying about his relationship with this woman puts him on “the verge of Vaisnava aparadha?”

Why was the woman hurriedly flown back to her home accompanied by another lady devotee all at the expense of the Navadwipa Math? Because there’s nothing to her story? Is this a customary service offered to foreign visitors?

If the IAB believes the allegations are false why don’t they make a public announcement declaring that the woman accusing Acharya Maharaj has made up a horrible lie that is completely untrue? Sripad Giri Maharaj suggested this in one of his latest vides as a means to clear Sripad Acharaya Maharaj’s name.

I think they don’t do that because they believe the accusations against Sripad Acharya Maharaj are true.

In my opinion, they don’t censure him because they prefer to send a message that anyone making such allegations, even if true, will be banished, shunned and, as you have suggested, accused of committing the greatest sin, that of Vaishnava aparadha. This seems to be the method the International Acharya Board uses to silence those who speak out about serious issues that could threaten their power or position.

Have you warned them that they should take the matter seriously and take some action to curtail the man of suspicious character? Or are you supporting them and him?

    Yours truly,

    Bhu-bhara Haraya das
