Read More...

“Who’s allowed to initiate in my line?” — Srila Giri Maharaja

BKG_CA_1996

Srila Giri Maharaja recently received the following question from our “Contact” Page:

Hare Krsna Maharaja,

Please can you tell me the names of all the Swamis in your line who are allowed to initiate disciples? Do you have a restricted list or is any Sanyassi allowed to initiate in your line?

Thanks,

Your servant

Dear Mr. ____________,

Please accept my well-wishes.

Srila Bhakti Sundara Govinda Maharaja was selected by Srila Sridhara Maharaja as his successor.

Srila Govinda Maharaja, in turn, named six acharyas of which I am one.

Srila Sridhara Maharaja believed that generally the current acharya will name his successor or successors. When selecting our guru, we should first look to those selected Read More...

Dear Ratnanabha Prabhu,

Please accept my humble dandavat pranams in remembrance of our Divine Masters.

I have studied your email carefully and, while I think I know what you want, it is not so clear.

I did not want to keep you waiting any longer for a response, however, so I will tell you what little I know from memory and what I can ascertain through some research.

Srila Sridhar Maharaj told us there are, I believe, 5 tattvas that are very difficult to understand. I don’t recall all of them but, Shiva tattva was one. So, already you have introduced a subject that Srila Guru Maharaj warned us is very difficult.

Fortunately, you have already done some research yourself Read More...

Many years ago I was present when Srila Sridhara Maharaja was speaking with a small group of devotees about a high topic in which we were all keenly interested. One of his disciples interrupted. He needed a few rupees to pay a ricksha walla who had delivered something to the Math. Srila Sridhara Maharaja told the devotee to bring his money belt. Srila Sridhara Maharaja carefully and very deliberately examined the various rupee notes, extracted the exact amount needed, seven or so ( about twenty cents for us), and handed them over to his disciple. He then carefully put the money belt away as the disciple went off to pay for the rickshaw.

I think many of us were thinking the same thing. “Srila Guru Maharaja is speaking about a very important Read More...

My dear spiritual daughter,

Please accept my blessings and well-wishes in remembrance of my Divine Masters.

I am worried, because you now speak very rarely with me and when you do, only shortly.

It is my fear thet you have become forgetful of me!

Krishna is a cruel master. Because of this, Sriman Mahaprabhu felt neglected by Him and showed the extreme degree of feeling of separation from Krishna. This was to show us how even the best of Krishna’s servants may feel neglected by their Master. Sri Chaitanya Deva also showed us the extreme degree of devotion of Krishna’s servants toward their Loving Lord.

Sri Guru is the manifestation of the mercy of Sri Krishna. But, because he represents Krishna fully, he may sometimes appear to be cruel and Read More...

Dear Sriman Jayanta Krishna dasa.

Please accept my humble obeisances in remembrance of our Divine Masters.

I was hoping you might explain why you are promoting the teachings of the mayavadi, Sri Mahaswamigal, and disappointed that I did not find any satisfactory explanation in your comments.

In an obscure way you are saying it is my fault you took to this practice because, I was not offering good advise lately or not practicing what I preach. Therefore, you wrote to me “Maybe that’s why people feel the need to go and listen somewhere else.”

No, prabhu, that is not the reason.

A Letter to My Friends (from an email dated August 21, 2014):

My dandavats,

I was trying to figure out who this man is that occupies so much space on Prabhu Jayanta Krishna’s Facebook wall.

When I did, I was surprised to see how popular this man is:

Who is he?

Dear _______,

It seems you never tire of reinforcing my points, yet cannot grasp their meaning.

Again you are highly critical of sadhus who you see as nothing more than “men”, who write “books written by men.”

Of course you offer no proof to substantiate your claim that books written by Vaishnava Gurus were written by men and not Krishna, God.

Because you do not know God you have no way of knowing if something was written by Him or was written by someone else.

Is this true or false?

In addition, your argument seems to be Read More...
