So, I’ve got jet lag and can’t get to sleep. I finally doze off about 11 PM. A little after midnight I hear a comotion, some talking, locks being unlocked, doors opening, luggage being moved and so forth. I know Prabhu Yudhamanu is supposed to be arriving around this time & will be staying in the VIP room at the other end of the hall near to Srila Gurudeva’s room in the Kolkata Sevaka Bhavan. I figure it’s him settling in to get some rest like me before leaving for Navadwipa later in the morning.

I have to leave with some devotees at 7:15 AM and I need an hour our two to pack so I’m trying desperately to get some sleep before the alarm goes off at 4:30 AM so I can get to Mangala Aroti before Read More...

Announcement: The Disappearance of Srila Govinda Maharaja (3/27/10)

At about 4:30am today, 27 March 2010, Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaja passed away from our vision  by his own sweet will and surrounded by sannyasis and servitors chanting softly.

His holy form was presently taken with a convoy of vehicles from our Dum Dum Park Temple, Kolkata, to Nabadwip where this afternoon he will be given samadhi close to the Samadhi Mandir of his beloved Srila Guru Maharaj, Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaja.

Sripad Jayadvaita Maharaja “On The Disappearance of Srila Govinda Maharaja”

In an email sent to Prabhu Mahananda and copied to me, His Holiness Sripad Jayadvaita Swami, with his usual eloquence and succinct style, expressed his heartfelt sentiments arising from the disappearance of Srila Govinda Maharaja. I am honored that he chose to share this email with me and expect our readers will also appreciate it.

It has been my good fortune to have His Holiness as one of my longtime friends. Being present at the time of their last meeting, I had the opportunity to see Srila Govinda Maharaja’s affectionate dealings with him. Just before that I chanced to meet Jayadvaita Swami at the ISKCON temple in Govardhana as I attended to some seva. As soon as I mentioned Srila Govinda Maharaja was at our Govardhana mandir, he immediately expressed his desire to see him.

Please accept my dandavat pranams to you and dear Lila Sundari dasi.I want to apologize for not contacting you since the passing away of Sripad Siddhanti Maharaja. My life was in an upheaval and I thought many times of writing but never got to it. So, I’m sorry for that.

The last week of Siddhanti Maharaja’s life was extremely intense, as you can imagine. On Monday, February 1, we could tell it would be soon. By evening time, most of his organs had shut down. He was resting peacefully and was breathing slowly, but not with too much difficulty.

I was sitting with him counting his respirations of breath Read More...
