Dear Sriman Nabadwip Prabhu,
Please accept my humble obeisances.
“Remembering those many years with Srila Prabhupada, Srila Sridhara Maharaj, and Govinda Maharaj always brings me great joy.”
It cannot be otherwise. My time serving Srila Prabhupada during his presence was very short, but we are told that sadhu sanga is so potent that even a moment’s association with such a great soul is sufficient to achieve perfection. In my case, perfection still seems almost unimaginable, but only almost. I can imagine it, because His Divine Grace has given me that hope. And, in what seems like only a few moments of his association, he planted another seed of hope; that even though he would not be physically present before us, his protection and nourishment would continue through our natural guardian, a Godfather to us, he had always relied upon for such things, Srila Sridhara Maharaja.
Those who were fortunate enough to believe in the Divinity of his singular successor, Srila Govinda Maharaja, would find, once again, that our Lord, Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is as lovingly disposed to His devotees as He is unsurpassed in all other aspects of his being, such as His infinite beauty, power, knowledge, etc. That Lord declared “My devotee will never perish.” and, by His grace, we have become unimpeachable witnesses to that fact.
Now our gurus are no longer showing us their physical form. They have disappeared from our vision. But their call to service remains steadfast and we believe they are eternally present with those who heed their call.
So, we are left with the joy of remembrance, but also with the joy that comes through our present service. And, again, there is joy in the knowledge that our future prospect is so bright, surpassing even our most hopeful imagination.
Srila Sridhara Maharaja sometimes quoted the verse:
madhuram madhuram vapur asya vibhor
madhuram madhuram vadanam madhuram
madhu gandhi mrdu smitam etad aho
madhuram madhuram madhuram madhuram
“O, Lord Krsna! The beauty of your transcendental form is sweet, but your beautiful face is even sweeter. The sweet smile on your face, which is like the sweet aroma of honey, is sweeter still.”
Sweet, sweet, sweet and, sweeter still, describes the sweetness of Krishna.
Joy, joy, joy and, still more joyful, is an apt descriptor for those who experience the Divine servitor relationship; a relationship that is open to all who carefully attend to its pursuit. For them, their joy knows no limit.
You wonder what our Guardians have in store for you. I think I have just described it, as best I could.
I have no immediate plan to visit the West coast.
It will be my honor to have your association at any time. Although you may find our accommodations a bit austere, you are welcome to stay in the Math for as long as you like.
I pray this finds you well in health and spirits.
