Srila Giri Maharaja – “Open letter to Sripada B.N. Acharya Maharaja”

Date: 1/5/18

Dear Sripada Acharya Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances in remembrance of our Divine Masters.

Since the time of Srila Govinda Maharaja’s disappearance I have been very unhappy and disturbed to see the activities of those who opposed Srila Gurudeva’s decision naming you as his successor Sevaite President Acharya of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Navadwipa and the Indian group. I have some idea also, from considerable personal experience, how much you must have struggled to regain your rightful position.

Recently I was informed of an article written by Sriman Hasyapriya dasa which outlines a reconciliation between yourself, Sripada Paramahamsa Maharaja and others who had behaved very badly by opposing Srila Gurudeva’s direction with respect to the position (described above) he expected you, and you alone, to assume after his departure from this world, just as he expected for each of the acharyas he named in the regions selected for them. Without equivocation I say, I am truly happy to learn of this hopeful news and pray such good news will continue until you are fully established once again as the acharya of the above named Maths.

I expect certain differences between you and I may continue for the balance of my lifetime. With respect to the above matters, however, there was never any difference. I think you know that.

Others portray confidence that they “know” Srila Gurudeva’s thinking on various matters which Gurudeva never directly addressed. I have little confidence I possess such highly developed spiritual knowledge as he has surprised me many times with his thinking on various subjects. On the matters discussed herein, however, he was very clear. Therefore, I believe he must be very happy, as I and many devotees are, with the news that Paramahamsa Maharaja and his associates have agreed to cooperate with you and, as a result, the courts are now acting in your favor.

Affection is a very strange animal. We are told it acts like a snake which zigs and zags from one side to another in order to move forward. There is no question about Srila Gurudeva’s affection for Your Holiness. And your struggle must have acted to increase his affectionate disposition towards you. But, with respect to the matters I am discussing, I wonder if his affection might be particularly drawn at this moment towards Sripada Paramahamsa Maharaja and his associate devotees who, like the prodigal son of the Bible, have returned home to satisfy the desire of the father. It is a reasonable assumption.

It is very difficult for me to speak for less than an hour and perhaps more difficult to write less than 1,000 words. But I think I have said enough for now and will end here with half the normal verbiage.

I pray this finds you and the devotees in your association well in health and spirits.

Sincerely and affectionately,

Swami B.K. Giri
