Srila Giri Maharaja – “Service to the Lord . . . run to it”

Date: 7/25/17

Dear Sriman Nila Madhava dasa,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

I would love to visit your center and attend a program. Do you have scheduled programs at your center?

We announce programs for special festival days on our website and invite everyone to attend those programs. Otherwise, we are a very small Math worshiping Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandhavika Giridharijiu, following the practices for Their worship as instructed by Srila Sridhara Maharaja. I am not personally involved with many formal programs such as puja, kirtana, etc., but am always happy to meet with and associate with devotees following in the line of Sri Chaitanya Saraswati.

At the time I came to associate with Srila Sridhara Maharaja he attended very few formal programs, maybe less than half a dozen a year. When he was younger he was involved in all the affairs of the Math; from the worship of Sri Giriraja to plowing the fields, tending the cows and mending the fences. He also chanted japa, studied, meditated on the meanings of the scriptures, composed Sanskrit poems in glorification of Sri Sir Guru Gauranga and wrote books such as Sri Sri Prapanna Jivanamrtam. Later he devoted his time principally to study of the shastras and personally instructing his disciples, friends and followers. He also spent considerable time each day engaged in informal discussions involving our Gaudiya Siddhanta with whomsoever approached him for such discussions. Although never setting out to do so, my life has come to follow a similar pattern, at least from an external viewpoint.

Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridharijiu are here and I will be very happy if you would like to come and render service to Them, Their Math and devotees. For that, no scheduled programs are required and, by that, you will receive the maximum benefit for your spiritual life. When service to the Lord is available to us, we should eagerly run to it. Why should we wait for a scheduled program? Such hesitation will only act as an impediment to our progress.

I will be happy to meet with you and discuss any points of mutual interest at any time possible for me. For that it is best to call me in advance to arrange a suitable time.

I pray this finds you well in health and spirits.

Swami B.K. Giri
