Bg 10.9

I’m happy to hear you are feeling inspired and enlivened through your preaching. Through such attempts we are trying to please Sriman Mahaprabhu and He is reciprocating by giving you further encouragement.

Srila Govinda Maharaja was a great preacher and inspired countless souls to awaken to their natural function. Following his direction is our “Life Nectar.” The more we can be dedicated to the service of His Divine Grace, the more we will feel encouragement, as you are feeling now.

Yes, Krishna is using you in ways we cannot fully understand. “Only He knows His own purpose.”

We cannot know His purpose fully, but we can be sure that we will be most useful in spreading knowledge about Him, and pleasing Him, by simply doing our duty, leaving the outcome to His determination and discretion.

Our only duty is to carefully follow in the footsteps of our previous acharyas. That means we cannot change what they have given.

Jesus preached against the “changers” of his religion who had converted the temples into flea markets for money changers. Srila Saraswati Thakura and his followers likewise endeavored to overturn and kick out the perverse introductions that had displaced the pure spiritual reforms established by Sriman Mahaprabhu.

The times are different, but the environment is still saturated with the virus that carries the disease that spreads invention, alteration and adulteration in the name of the pure unalloyed teachings of the Bhagavatam as spoken by Sri Shukadeva, then further imbued with the sweetness of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s magnanimity, clarification and spiritual vision.

Only constant inoculation against that disease, by hearing and chanting the glories of the Lord, in the association of His devotees, will keep us free from its influence, although it is also living within us, waiting for the moment when our immune system is weak. When that happens, the virus will attack, and we will have to make a choice, fight the disease, or succumb to it.

It is always easier to succumb. We therefore see so many whose minds have been swayed and changed, believing there is some deficiency in the words and teachings of our gurus that can be corrected and improved by introducing new and novel ideas.

This is the trick of maya who uses any means to entice us away from the center of Krishna Consciousness, the instructions of Sri Guru.

New and novel, or new and improved, can never come by stepping even one inch outside the footprints of our Sri Gurudeva. For once we do, we are again stepping into the slippery, slimy, stale and stagnant swamp of the mundane plane where “new and improved” is the ubiquitous slogan used to disguise deviation and deceit.

New and novel is the nature of the Sweet Absolute. He is nava yauvana, always fresh and youthful. He is only known to his pure devotees and can only be known by following their direction, instruction and advice. Doing so is the only possible new and novel idea we can introduce into the material world. And, by doing so, we will be enabled to see for ourselves what is truly new and novel, the beauty and sweetness of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Govinda, Gopinatha and Madana Mohan.

The precepts of our gurus are the only bedrock upon which we can build any substantial structure. Whatever is built upon any other foundation is sure to crumble with even the slightest movement of the spiritual plane.

We are sure to make many mistakes in our attempt to preach the pure precepts of our Divine Masters. But we should not stop our preaching attempts for even one moment, because it is the principle means by which the Lord will be attracted to correct our vision, so that we may see the world through the eyes of His loving servitors.

You are always giving some good report about your preaching. I am very happy to see this. If we can bring even one soul to the service of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga that will do more good than building thousands of hospitals which offer no cure, or even hope of cure, for the true ailments of human society, which are the cause of all disease, suffering and distress.

I pray this finds you well in all respects.

Dear Srila Giri Maharaj,

Dandavat.

This evening two different young men around Bimalanda das’s age called the ashram here wanting to come talk with me. A 24 year old man name Michael just spontaneously showed up here in the yard, having found a flier downtown, I think maybe a flier Bimalananda das put up. It could have been one of mine or even Indra Bandhu prabhu, but I think timing wise and the store location, though Indra and I have dropped fliers there, it was a flier from him. He came here and spent the evening, from about 4 PM till about 4 AM, took prasadam, heard about the lineage of Sri Krsna Caitanya, yourself, and bhakti, etc., asked questions, etc., and about half way through a conversation with him, my phone rings, and it’s a young man I once preached to in Salem about three years ago named Jacob. He called wanting to come this evening if he could (of course) and talk with me. So I was about to prepare an India dish and put some extra together, he came over and I continued talking about the Lord (what I know from Guru and scripture), and answered some questions, and they are both excited to participate. Michael said he’d come by again Monday to do some service, and he has been reading Srimad Bhagavad Gita As It Is already, and took Hidden Treasure, Divine Aspiration, Life and Precepts, and I finally distributed Life Nectar too. Jacob made an offering of laksmi, and took Life and Precepts, Divine Aspiration, Heart and Halo, and I also was able to distribute Life Nectar to him as well, he wants to participate in Friday’s program, and they both want to come regularly… and Steven the other young man has still been coming every few days (about 3 days) to participate and hear about Sri Krishna, and read. I think some of them may participate in an online Skype this weekend, and may come Sunday as well for a program. Also an instructor and administrative woman at the college and her family may come Friday evening too, she is Latino and I’m showing her the Spanish Bhagavata.

My point is, I am very amazed at the sukriti of others, and see the power of attraction in their lives working. Although I am very insignificant, and you know nothing is hidden from you, you know I am so fallen, yet you are using this space and my life to do some service. It is very amazing that the Lord is doing this work here. I didn’t leave here to meet Bimalananda das and look at all he’s done, how far he is going with his spiritual relations with you. And here these others are coming here! The Lord can even make the animals sing, and so though I know I am not much better or more conscious than that, I am so fortunate to have a Guru and your association to connect service with, and though fallen you are using me, so I am encouraged in bhakti yoga.

I did wish to allow for sukriti to work, and so I am happy to see that at work in those coming here, and we’ll wait and see. But I haven’t even gotten to flier for the Friday event and people are showing up:)

I did pray that someone would come to honor Friday’s festivities in remembrance of Srila Purusottama Thakur and yourself, and my prayers look like they may be answered. Hare Krishna!

So both they young men in early 20’s hung out talking with me until early morning, it was sooo nice to be able to talk about the Lord and His associates, and very energizing, so I don’t feel so tired, I feel more and more awake. I know that it is a connection with you that is so wonderful and Srila Govinda Maharaj, and I am expressing that I am grateful and appreciative.

Affectionately,
Sriman Radha-Syam das brahmacari
